Side hustles are a great way to bring in some extra cash or gift cards. Sometimes you need a little extra money; sometimes you need a lot. Side hustles from home can help either way.

The problem is trying to find legitimate ways to bring in the money. I’ve compiled a list of tried and true sources so you can avoid wasting your time looking.

Sites such as Swagbucks, Survey Junkie or Inbox Dollars offer ways to earn up to $250 per month just by answering survey questions or product tests. You can do these while watching TV, waiting for an appointment, or any other free time. At these sites, you not only have a chance to earn some extra money but also get rewarded with gift vouchers, prize drawings, free products, etc.

Sell Your Books

Most people already know about used book stores like Half-Price Books, but these stores don’t pay much for your books. To get the most money for your books, check out BookScouter.

Just enter the ISBN of the book and get a quote. This isn’t a reliable source of monthly income, but it may provide a bonus every so often. Be sure to download the mobile app so you can check books while out at yard sales and second-hand stores. You never know when you might find a real gem!

Watch YouTube Videos and Movie Previews

If watching videos is your thing you can get paid for watching things like movie previews, news, celebrity videos and more.

You can earn over $200 per month on sites like Swagbucks. You will be asked to watch a list of videos and like them. You’ll have to watch for a specified amount of time (you’ll be informed ahead of time). You’ll earn Swagbucks just for viewing (points that can be redeemed for gift cards or PayPal.

Test Websites

What Users Do and User Testing are companies that pay you to test websites. No technical knowledge required.

You start out by downloading the testing software. You will be instructed to perform several tests on a specific website, recording the tests with your webcam. The web clients want to be able to see and hear you interact with their websites.

You can test as many websites as are offered each month, earning $10-$20 per test.

All of the sites mentioned above are free to sign up and use. If a site asks you for money it is probably a scam site.

Not Online Side Hustles, but Money Saving

Though not technically side hustles, try these options to save some money. Check out more money saving ideas.

Get Cash Back While Shopping Online

Ebates gives you cash back at 100s of online stores. Just go to the Ebates website before shopping and click through the store you want to visit. If you buy something fro the store, Ebates gets a commission that they split with you. Click here to sign up for Ebates, and you’ll also receive a $10 gift card when you earn your first cashback rebate.

A similar site is MyPoints. You start your shopping trip on their website and can earn points rather that cash back. Points can be redeemed for giftcards from Amazon, Walmart, Starbucks or other merchants. MyPoints also has surveys, games, videos, and other ways to earn.

Get money back for stuff you’ve already bought

Don’t you hate it when you buy something and a few days later the price drops? With Paribus you’ll never have to worry about that again. Paribus connects to your email accounts and watches for receipts from online merchants. If a retailer drops the price, Paribus will file a price adjustment claim on your behalf.

This service is only for online merchants and some (Amazon) do not offer price protection.
